I enjoyed my day at Hobbycraft today. All the staff were brilliant and very welcoming, and I met some marvelous people. The high point was when a 5 year old girl ran over to ask what I was doing. Her Mum watched as she made a couple of single crochet stitches, which she made very well indeed!
My new friend ‘L’ deserves a special mention, too. She was about 10 years old, and picked up both knitting and crochet very quickly, then persuaded her Mum to buy a hook and a couple of balls of yarn so she could carry on at home. I’m very pleased to have passed on these skills and I hope she continues to practise.
The kids were more adventurous than the adults today, I taught about 6 girls between 5 and 11 years, but only about 4 adults. I think they were shy. 😉 Next week I might bring a big poster saying “You’re not interrupting, talk to me!”. Customers enjoyed looking at the jewellery on display, and there was plenty of interest in my classes, with two people making bookings places already, so I’m expecting more people to ring or email me in the next few days.
I’m starting to plan for next Sunday already – I’ll be bringing along extra yarn and hooks, so you can try normal crochet, or if that’s too tame, why not try hairpin lace or Tunisian crochet? You will find me on the left after the counter. I’m close to the cupcake decorating supplies, which makes me quite peckish. 😀
I will be in Hobbycraft, Deepdale, Preston next Bank Holiday Sunday 28th August, then on Thursdays from the 8th September.
My next classes are on Monday 3rd and Monday 19th September, both are suitable for beginners.
